The Origin Story

1998

The Flash Drive Days

My journey into game design began at age seven with physical board games. By the late 90s, I was coding HTML. During a rough period of housing insecurity, I'd ride my bike to the local library, download game programming guides onto a 256MB flash drive, and teach myself to code on an old laptop in a motor home.

2009

Teaching the Internet

Long before modern game engines had massive communities, I launched the very first GameMaker/GML tutorial series on YouTube. I spent years teaching hundreds of people how to build their own games from scratch and implement complex networking, establishing a lifelong dedication to community building.

"The original GML tutorial guy."

I believe that game development should be accessible to everyone. That philosophy is what drove me to create tutorials in 2009, and it's exactly what drives the built-in player creation tools of Heartlands today.
